The annual International Ludwig Albert Marimba Academy, related to the prestigious Universal Marimba Competition Belgium, is founded in 2006 by marimba virtuoso Dr. Ludwig Albert. internationally acclaimed and awarded as a virtuoso artist, pioneer and composer, belongs throughout the world with the absolute top flight. He’s profiled as one of the most successful pedagogues of his generation and is unmistakably an ‘icon’ in the international marimba world.
Perceived by press for his unique ‘legendary’ sound and with his own marimba competition, worldwide masterclasses and his self-developed 'eight-mallet grip’, he has influenced many young players in his particular way. The academy gathers the marimba around the globe and foster cross cultural understanding.
It has been dedicated with success to inspire young students, to train competition candidates and to promote the popularization and development of the marimba art. The academy took place in Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Taiwan and welcomed during past editions over 650 participants from all continents and presented as guest lecturers a topflight of leading artists such as Keiko Abe, Mark Ford, Momoko Kamiya a.o.
The academy is highly praised by students for its unique locations and atmosphere, its intense training and amount of lessons, the available practice facilities and presented concerts. It is open for intermediate-, advanced- to professional marimba-players in solo, duo to chamber music disciplines.

Define your sound through Body controlled marimba sound production
A full week of practicing, individual marimba lessons solo & duo, masterclasses, chamber music, marimba ensemble, traditional percussion, body awareness and in- and outdoor concerts.
The course offers to participate as an active performing participant or as a passive observer participant.
The Academy’s worldwide leading role is reflected by the embarking study careers and resulting winning competition Prizes of passed students.

The 17th edition 2025 will take place in the music academy and in the beautiful city Amarante-Portugal.
The teaching staff includes renown marimba artists such as dr. Ludwig Albert (BE), Rodrigo F. Marques (PT), Tanasit Siripanichwattana (TH). Tiago Ferreira (PT), and Noriko Tsukagochi (JP).
International Summer Academy 2025

For children, advanced and University level: solo, duo, chamber music, ensemble, improvisation, technique, body movement, body awareness….

For Portuguese students: It is possible to schedule private lessons for only one or more days (30 Euro/ a day - max. 2 classes by 2 different professors/ a day). For those who wish to remain several days, it will be needed to arrange personally your hotel reservation or local lodging.

A day trip can be organized additionally by interest of the participants

All including: Academy fee & hotel (7 nights) = 850 Euro.

It is possible to attend as a passive student all public classes (20 euro a day).

The hotel (double rooms with breakfast) will be located in the center of city Amarante and nearby the academy.

Transport from and to the airport can be reserved beforehand. Please notice that this will not be included in the academy fee and need to be paid personally.
