Dr. Ludwig Albert, acclaimed as a passionate pedagogue, knows to inspire during his masterclasses many enthusiasts with his designed method and concept in body controlled marimba sound production. He received in 2016 for his innovative approach “Movin’Grips” the title of ‘Doctor of Arts (PhD)’ at the Antwerp University Belgium. Based on 35 years of experience, this training focus to tone production and the sonorous interpretation in marimba performance through body controlled sound production. The pedagogic effectiveness is reflected in over 85 obtained Competition prizes by alumni of his renowned and Europe’s first created marimba departments at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp and the Luca University Antwerp.

His intense masterclass is a true collaboration between teacher and student to improve their playing. It’s a public event where he shares as much knowledge and experience as possible, from which both audience and students can take away valuable knowledge and insights. Most importantly they will be able to hear the obtained differences and improvements. It is crucial for students to achieve awareness of body controlled marimba sound production and further on to shape their desired sound. It will, combined with ear training and a creative varied production of expressive colors, result in an optimal musical sensation and interpretation.

Dr. Ludwig Albert brings during his anticipating master classes his passion for teaching not only to a specialized group of marimbists, but also to a wider audience. Learning fundamental techniques, practice strategies, stroke movements through controlled body movement, colorization, musical interpretation, the production of sound shapes and sonorous acoustic connections and how to add richness and depth to the sound, will shape the ultimate sound and will give the most dynamic expressive performance yet.
